Al Carns MP

I spent a lovely afternoon with Hugh and Andrew from the Lapal Canal Trust, who are doing fantastic work to restore canals across the constituency. Their dedication and passion for preserving this vital part of our local heritage is truly inspiring.
The Trust’s ongoing efforts to raise funds for restoration are about much more than bringing waterways back to life. Restored canals offer a wealth of community benefits – from providing beautiful green spaces for residents to enjoy, to creating habitats for wildlife and improving biodiversity. They also contribute to better mental and physical wellbeing by encouraging walking, cycling, and outdoor activity.
Beyond the environmental and health benefits, canal restoration can play a key role in boosting local economies and tourism, supporting small businesses and enhancing pride in the area’s history. It’s a shining example of how grassroots action, supported by local fundraising and community spirit, can make a lasting impact.
I’m proud to support the Lapal Canal Trust and will continue working with them to ensure their important work is recognised and championed.
