I visited The Beeches on Selly Oak Road, where an empty building is being given a new lease of life as affordable homes. My thanks go to Bournville Village Trust and Spring Housing for making this scheme possible and giving families in urgent need the chance of a secure home.

With over 500 people each week applying to Birmingham City Council because they are at risk of homelessness, projects like this are vital. The Beeches will provide 21 two- and three-bedroom apartments for families currently in temporary accommodation, ensuring they have the space, stability and support they need.

This is a powerful example of what can be achieved when organisations work together: turning unused buildings into homes which help families rebuild their lives and become part of the community.
