Al Carns MP

It was an honour for Al to meet some of the 26 cadets who form the Birmingham Sherbourne Sea Cadets Squadron at their fantastic hub in Cotteridge recently.
Seeing all the hard work and enthusiasm of Selly Oak’s young cadets, as well as meeting the Adult Volunteers who pass their experience on to the next generation was a real pleasure.
Al was pleased to learn that all the cadets are also able to gain a range of qualifications whilst there, helping to improve their skills in both their personal and academic capabilities, as well as having credentials to take with them once they leave the Sea Cadets.
It was a wonderful to learn that five local Royal Naval Association veterans from the Royal Naval Association Cotteridge Branch had also been invited along for me to meet, including a former submariner and a former Royal Marines Motorcycle Display rider! Al thoroughly enjoyed talking to them all about their years of service and watching them engage with the young cadets.
It is truly inspiring to see the opportunities these young people have, thanks to the tireless work of everyone who makes it possible. Every young person should consider joining and taking full advantage of all the opportunities on offer, as there are so many exciting things to be involved with and so many skills to learn and develop.
Birmingham Sherbourne Sea Cadets allows every young person who joins to climb the ladder of opportunity. Thanks to all the Adult Volunteers whose dedication is truly commendable. They are instrumental in shaping the character of these young people, and instilling values that will serve them well in any path they choose.
